Emerging Artist Show

Posted in Accomplished Projects, Uncategorized on July 30, 2008 by Josan

I am going to be part of a group show at Elliott Louis Gallery in Vancouver. I think I will be one of the few representing the city. It’ll be nice seeing familiar faces from Emily Carr at the exhibit. 🙂 Shall I see you there?

I keep changing my mind on what Im going to do for this project. Here is an example of what I’ve decided to stick too.

Adobe Lightroom

After that workshop with Carlo, I was intrigued by the Adobe Lightroom he briefly mentioned. I downloaded a trial version and checked it out at a Mac shop. I thought it was a really cool software. You can edit the color tones of your image to the littlest details. It’s time consuming, yet it works. But for $375, you could get the same effects (without as much control as Lightroom though) in scanner softwares and plug-ins either for free or cheaper.

P.S: Nothing still beats taking good photos and doing just a little bit of editing in photoshop/lightroom. Most photos I took for this project are under crappy lighting (very tungsten) and when I corrected them in the softwares, it became grainy

The Little Prince

A couple of weeks ago while hanging out at Jordan Bent’s place I came across the most fascinating discovery, a book that we both love and use as one of our creative influence, The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint Exupéry.

It made me understand further why he paints the people in his paintings the way they were portrayed. His paintings and my photography has a very humanistic view of life. I love the little prince and I wish I could be like him and watch sunsets a thousand times in my own little planet while doing chores. It will remind me the beauty of those little things that I appreciate a lot, they have tihs magical essence that never seizes to make me smile.
